live CD / live USB

The principle of CD/USB live is to use/test a distribution on a computer without touching your personal data.
CD/USB live allows you to test the compatibility of your hardware too.

HandyLinux is “compressed” in a special file (squashfs.filesystem) and integrated into the ISO image you have downloaded.
This special file is “unzipped” when using Live.
This special file will be copied to your hard drive during installation.

Bios Configuration

Insert your HandyLinux DVD into your computer drive or the HandyLinux USB key in the slot, and then restart.
Before your system launch, press [F2] or [F12] or [Del] key (depends on your machine) to access BIOS configuration or boot list (a small menu that lets you choose directly how your machine will start).

  • the start menu : it offers you the choices to start your computer (hard disk, CD/DVD, USB stick or network boot). You just need to select the apropriate support (CD/DVD or USB) then press [Enter].
  • the BIOS setup screen : it has several tabs to configure your machine. Choose the “boot” tab or “start” and then make sure that the correct media is first in the list. If this is not the case, select the CD/DVD or USB, then press the [F5] or [F6] key to up or down the items of the list entry.

Once configured, press [Esc] : then a menu gives you different choices: “save and quit” or “save then start”, choose the entry that keeps your settings by pressing the dedicated button.

Launch HandyLinux from a DVD or an USB key

Once your BIOS is correctly configured, your computer starts from the DVD or USB device : Home screen to start Handylinux Note that HandyLinux is running slower in Live session than after installing.

The default entry is the live, just press [Enter] to start HandyLinux.

Once launched, HandyLinux displays the xfce4 desktop (the default environment of handylinux) and a greeting :
Home screen of the graphical session

Then your HandyLinux system works. I let you start the tour by the “HandyMenu” page that introduces you to your new environment and integrated applications.
Once your tests finish, you can turn off and restart your machine by the red action button at the bottom right of your screen.
